Welcome,C.R.!

About Branches and Bones

Pinkerton Evelyn Horn has seen her fair share of the weird and dark. But when she arrives in the Utah Territories to investigate the disappearance of fellow Pinkerton and friend, she finds herself facing something even more sinister.

Strange occult rites, crazed cultists, and ancient prophecies all point to something dark and malevolent lurking in the shadows. Evelyn must use all her skills and experience to survive the horrors that await her in the mountains.

A gritty, action-packed, and bloody horror story, Branches and Bones is a must-read for fans of the genre.

Interview with C.R. Langille

What is it about the Weird West genre that draws you to it? What are your favorite aspects or examples of this often-underappreciated genre?

I grew up watching Old Western movies as well as horror movies as a child and grew to love both genres. I think the Old West is a perfect setting for horror as it plays on those ideas of isolation, danger, and the unknown.

If you were living in the Weird West, what kind of character would you be?

I don’t know, lol. I like to think I’d be or do something important like be a Sheriff, or something crazy. But in reality, I’d probably be that recluse on the edge of town or in the forest… the one everyone would think is a witch.

Are there any other writing projects you’re working on?

I am currently finishing up a draft of my Alone meets Cabin in the Woods novel titled, The Last. It’s about a group of wilderness survival experts who think they are competing on a reality television show when actually they are being played by the company in something much more sinister.

What are you reading right now?

I’m currently reading Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes. Like the Old West, I think space lends itself nicely to the horror genre, and this book doesn’t disappoint.

Favorite weird west movie/book/comic/etc. and why?

While it’s not weird west, I have a love/hate relationship with Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. On one hand, it is so beautifully written you can get lost in the pages easily. On the other, it’s been probably eight years since I read it and still feel gritty in my soul from that one.

Anything else you’d like to add about writing or the Weird West (tips, etc.)?

It’s such a cool genre. I love how it is kind of making a resurgence as of late and the amount of quality stories and amazing writers contributing to the genre make my heart sing.
